Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agri-Tourism Exhibition Grandly Held in Selangor, Hosting 2,000 Exhibitors to Showcase Agricultural Innovation

The Malaysian Agriculture, Horticulture and Agro-Tourism Exhibition 2026 (MAHA 2026) is currently being held in full swing at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS). As a highly anticipated agricultural event in the country, the exhibition has drawn significant attention from industry professionals and the general public since its opening on August 28. During the event, despite a minor smoke incident, the situation was swiftly and effectively managed through the efficient coordination between the organizing committee and relevant authorities, ensuring the safety and smooth operation of the exhibition.

Scheduled from August 28 to September, MAHA 2026 is hosted at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) in Serdang, Selangor. Serving as a vital platform to showcase the nation's agricultural development achievements, the exhibition features a massive scale with approximately 2,000 exhibitors presenting their offerings. The organizers have set an ambitious target of attracting over 4 million visitors throughout the event. This impressive figure not only underscores MAHA's strong appeal in the agriculture, horticulture, and agro-tourism sectors across Southeast Asia and beyond, but also reflects robust market demand for modern agricultural technology, green horticulture, and rural tourism resources.

As the exhibition was in full swing, a technical incident involving smoke and an unusual odor occurred in Hall A at 4:50 p.m. on August 29. In response, the on-site security management team swiftly activated the emergency response plan, temporarily sealing off Hall A and initiating the evacuation of personnel. This measure was not prompted by an uncontrollable disaster, but was a standard precautionary action taken in strict accordance with the safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of MAHA 2026. Its core objective was to ensure the absolute safety of life and property, as well as to safeguard the visitor experience for all attendees and exhibitors.

Following the incident, the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia, in conjunction with the venue security management team, promptly intervened to conduct a comprehensive and meticulous safety inspection of Hall A. After rigorous assessment by professionals, it was confirmed that there were no ongoing safety threats on site. The MAHA 2026 Organizing Committee subsequently issued an official statement noting that the technical incident had been fully controlled and resolved, with no impact on the structural integrity of the building. The statement specifically emphasized: "No injuries, medical emergencies, or fatalities have been reported. Hall A has been certified as safe and immediately reopened to the public."

The swift resolution of this smoke incident fully demonstrated the professional capabilities and rapid emergency response of the MAHA 2026 Organizing Committee in safety management for large-scale events. Prioritizing prevention and strictly enforcing safety SOPs are crucial to ensuring the smooth operation of mega exhibitions. In a post-incident reiteration, the organizing committee emphasized that the temporary evacuation was a normal execution of the standard prevention mechanism, reflecting the organizer's high commitment to life safety. Currently, Hall A has resumed normal operations, and all exhibition programs are proceeding safely and in an orderly manner.

With the reopening of Hall A, the exciting programs of MAHA 2026 will continue in full swing at MAEPS. Over the remainder of the exhibition, the 2,000 exhibitors are expected to deliver more cutting-edge displays on sustainable agriculture, innovative horticultural technologies, and the integrated development of agro-tourism. This grand event, bringing together industry expertise and public enthusiasm, will not only promote exchange and cooperation in the agricultural sector but also inject new vitality into the agricultural modernization of Malaysia and the broader region.
